Best Fishing Knot?

Filed under: How To..., Video — admin @ 11:17 am

I’ll call this the Swisher Knot, since that’s where I first saw it tied in the late 80’s by Doug Swisher himself. Swisher visited a local fly shop in Minneapolis and gave a talk on fly fishing. I’d already owned several of his 3M series on fly casting, which I still believe are some of the best I’ve ever seen. The fishing action interspersed in them is priceless.

He shows this knot, I believe in one of those videos. Here is how I use it to tie a fly to a tippet or a jig to monofilament for other types of fishing. It has all the traits of a great knot: easy to learn, easy and fast to tie, and strong. Take a look at the video below and give the Swisher Knot a try. And Doug, if you ever read this, tell me where you got it!

It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas

We have just received 10 inches of the white stuff on this April 11, 2008. The stream trout season opens tomorrow, I’m so excited to fly fish in a snow bank.

Get ready to limber up your fly fishing skills on panfish this spring. Next week - I know spring will come - I can just feel it. Here’s an old steelhead fly you might try that’s killer on crappies.Green Butt Skunk

What better way to prepare for the coming bass fly fishing season than to load up on a couple of tasty limits of crappies (”crappie”, in the south) or sunfish (”bream”, pronounced “brim” in the south), using a flyrod. Most folks don’t know how much fun fly fishing for panfish is - it’s also the best way to introduce someone to fly fishing.

You ever heard of titty brim? Check out a short piece on going after big bluegills HERE. (If they’re so big you can’t hold them in one hand and must jam them against your chest - you got titty brim!)

I don’t tell everyone this, but I have some really good info on panfish flies and fly fishing strategy on flybass.com.
